This is pricing guide that will touch on a common question: how much does liposuction cost? While information about liposuction is plentiful, pricing information is sort of limited. I have touch on this question before but will add on to what is already available in this blog. (See my previous post about laser liposuction pricing in london, laser lipo prices, and how to find cheap and affordable laser liposuction).

Before giving you the price information, let me recap what determines lazer liposuction prices in general. This is in response to readers who are asking: How can I get lipo at an affordable rate? By knowing what affects the prices, you will be in a better position to look for the cheapest liposuction services around.

Liposuction prices includes the cost of the following: the surgeon fees, the cost of anesthesia, the cost of using the facility and the use of liposuction garment. There are four primary factors in determining the amount you need to pay for the above.

One of the most important factor is geography. Later on, as I go through the prices of the different cities, you will see the disparity among the cost. The second factor is the qualifications and the experience of the surgeon. The more experienced surgeon will command a much higher price. The third factor is the cost of the facility. The newer and more state of the art facility will definitely cost more. The fourth part is the number of areas that you need to be operated on. If you want liposuction on larger areas such abdomen or back, it will cost more than just a chin liposuction.

Now that you know what determines liposuction pricing, now let;s look at the average price you need to pay by states. I listed only the top ten states with the most searches for the word “liposuction’ according to Google insight. In upcoming post, I will cover cities and states that I might have missed here.

How much does liposuction cost in Los Angeles

The prices here are higher due to the higher cost of living driven up by the likes of the Beverly Hills and Melrouse Place areas. On average it cost around USD7,000 to have a qualified surgeon attend to you.

How much does liposuction cost in Louisiana

There was only one price data so the number here might not be 100% correct. The patient reported a sum of USD4,000 for a laser liposuction done on the stomach.

How much does liposuction cost in Mississippi

Prices for this area is also cheaper, with the average ranging from USD4000 to USD5,000. This was liposuction done on the abdomen and the inner thighs.

How much does liposuction cost in Alabama

There is a well respect surgeon Dr William J. Hedden, MD who charges about USD4,000 for liposuction on one area. He is stationed in Birmingham Alabama and has two offices. One in 140 Village Street, Greystone Cosmetic Center, Suite 100. Another office is located at Spa Auburn, 778 North Dean Road, Suite 400, Auburn, AL 36830. Dr William Hedden is a member o the American Association of Plastic Surgeons (AAPS) and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

How much does liposuction cost in Oklahoma City

The data here is a bit hard to draw conclusions. It ranges from USD15,000 to USD3,500. Both the patients had horrible experiences with their surgeons in Oklahoma and you can read about their experiences by following the URL:

How much does liposuction cost in Georgia

In cities such as Atlanta, Macon etc, the average cost ranges from USD4,000 to USD5,000. There is one very cheap liposuction surgeon by the name of Dr Marc Klein, MDwho charges only USD3,200 for thigh liposuction, specifically on the mushy saddle bags on the patient’s outer thighs. Dr Marc Klein has 13 years of experience and is affiliated with Northside Hospital, North Fulton Regional Hospital and Emory Johns Creek. His liposuction clinic is located at Premier Image Cosmetic & Laser Surgery, 4553 North Shallowford Rd, Suite 20B, Atlanta, GA.

How much does liposuction cost in Nevada

I could not find information for the state of Nevada. With places such as Carson City and Las Vegas, you might think there are more people looking for lipo surgery but there is very little information online. If I managed to find some data, I will update the post here.

How much does liposuction cost in Texas

In Dallas, the liposuction price is fairly inexpensive, with prices arranging from USD4,000 to USE 6,000. I found a surgeon by the name of  Dr Mark A. Deuber who charges USD4,000 for liposuction for love handles. The patient was happy with the procedure and recommended the doctor. His office is located at 2801 Lemmon Ave. West, Suite 300, Dallas, Texas.

In Houston, the price is slightly more expensive, averaging between USD5,000 to USD7,000.

There was a data point on Woodlands, Texas that cost about USD10,000 with the patient not being satisfied with the result.

How much does liposuction cost in Arizona

Scottsdale offers cheaper liposuction services with prices for liposuction arm to be as low as USD3,000. The highest cost reported is only USD4,000. Similarly for other cities such as Phoenix and Flagstaff, the average cost is only around USD4,000. Arizona seem to be one of the cheapest state to have lipo.

How much does liposuction cost  in Hawaii

No date point so far.

In future post, I will use the same format to write about liposuction pricing in other states as well as countries. One of the surprising thing that came out of my research was that in the last twelve months, the country with the most interest in liposuction is actually Singapore. It is a very small island city nation that has only 4 milllion people. Can you imagine a city with so small a population can have so much interest in liposuction. I will want to write about liposuction Singapore in my upcoming post as well.

The average laser liposuction prices in London is  from just £990 per area. Typically, these will include more than just the surgery. In fact, you will be getting consultation time with the doctors both before and after the operations. This is important to rest assure the patient on any questions that they might have.  The prices will also likely to include any particular mediation that you might require. In recent years however, other countries especially those coming from Asia are offering cheaper prices for laser liposuction. This had to what I called the medical tourism industry where there are travel agencies that specialized in helping travel aboard for operations and treatments. The prices of doing operations in these countries are so cheap that it is worth to travel there as the saving more than cover the air tickets and accommodation that you need to spend on.

For example, laser lipo in thailand can go as low as 50% of what was charged in US or Europe. Unfortunately, there is a limited number of qualified surgeons, which limits the number of operations that can be done. Also, there are scams going on so you need to extra careful if you are thinking about doing your laser lipo in Thailand. My advice is to pick a reputable travel agent that specialisms in helping patients go aboard. They will be in a best position to help you. Just google for medical travel agencies and you should be able to find a few options. Watch out for the advertisements on the sponsored listing page of Google’s results are they might also contain useful information.

Anyway, I found a very interesting site that allows users to key in the prices of the laser liposuction in their region. Using this approach, it is beginning to assemble a useful price guide that people can referred to. Unfortunately, most of the data points are coming from US. So, for people in Asia or Europe who are looking for pricing information on laser lipo, this will not be useful.

There are many sites out there that offer good prices guide for different kinds of cosmetic surgery. Take for instance this site that covers good info on cosmetic dentistry prices. If you want to see what kind of prices do dentistry surgeons charge, you can refer to it and see whether it is within your budget.

(Updated june 2010: I have received a number of inquires that ask whether it is possible to have liposuction prices new york $1500,  tummy tuck prices new york $1500 or even liposuction under $1000. My answer is no. Be aware of surgeons who promised such low prices as they may not be qualified surgeons. Yes, they are doctors but they might not be Board certified surgeons. As for their liposuction before and after images to verify their skills.

If you are looking for laser lipo under $2000 or even $1500, it is recommended that you do a bit of market research before deciding on a particular surgeon. While most people would like to consider only surgeons in their local area such as London, perhaps you can consider cheaper places in Asia such as Thailand, Singapore or even Malaysia.

As a recap (I have written about laser liposuction cost before), laser liposuction is about using a non-instructive mechanism to remove fats form your body.  It is a pure cosmetic surgery, which means they don’t prevent the fats from coming back. It was reported that 1 out of  500,000 people in the US alone resort to laser lipo every single year. My guess is that this number will increase as more and more people look for fast solutions to their weight problems.

Laser lipo prices are mainly determined by geography. Between states, you can find wide discrepancies in what people are paying. The reason is due to the fact that laser lipo is a fairly new operation and there isn’t enough doctors evenly distributed across the country. In areas where there are more surgeons doing laser liposuction, you will find lower prices relatively to regions where there is a lack of such surgeons.

The prices of any laser lipo operation is also determined by the area which you want to operate on. The general rule is that the larger the region, the more expensive is the operation.  Hence, if you are going for stomach related laser lipo, you will tend to pay more than if you were to go for laser lipo for your facial parts like chin or neck.

Finally, the experience of the surgeons pay a big role as well in determining laser lipo prices. A well known surgeon tend to charge more but you are paying for reassurance that he knows what he is doing. For relatively new surgeons, you will not expected to pay as much.

These are some of the important factors that you can consider when deciding the price you should be paying. As I said earlier, there is no clear and fast rule because each individual has unique need and as such, the prices of the operation may vary from person to person. Notwithstanding that, below are some guidelines to the prices that you can use as reference. Remember that the prices referred to those found in US and not in other cities like London or Canada.

One thing you might want to note is with regards to insurance. Since laser lipo is considered to be a purely cosmetic operation, it will not be cover with whatever medical insurance coverage you have. Just want to highlight this in case you are thinking of using that.
